Event Details

BurgerMonday lunch at Hawksmoor in E1The BurgerMonday series of great London burger meetups and eatups, presented by youngandfoodish, launches on 26th April with a very special lunch at the Hawksmoor. The acclaimed steakhouse many newspaper critics and knowing bloggers regard as the best in the UK has singlehandedly elevated the status of the hamburger in the UK. The extraordinary Hawksmoor steakburger is a charred, juicy thing of beauty packed by hand with a custom mix of Longhorn cattle cuts – including the long neglected Clod and Sticking – from the Ginger Pig enriched with unctious nuggets of bone marrow.

The main event at the Hawksmoor BurgerMonday will be the burger. It could not be otherwise. Each will be cooked to order and served with triple cooked chips or a gem salad. You can have your burger  topped with either Ogle Shield (a Somerset cheese James Montgomery believes is at its best when melted) or Stichelton Blue Cheese and, if desired, Ginger Pig streaky bacon.

But to make this lunch a singular event, the Hawksmoor's Will Beckett has cooked up a rather unusual concept of dessert. Rather than bother with puddings, the BurgerMonday group will be treated to a private tasting of sandwiches to be introduced on the bar menu at the new Hawksmoor coming to Seven Dials near Covent Garden. (Will wants feedback from the discriminating BurgerMonday bunch and, ideally, our seal of approval for the new items.)

The exclusive preview or, if you prefer, pretaste will feature a nosh of the Hawksmoor pork belly sandwich (just what we need, more fatty meat!) and the steakhouse's rendition for "Old" England of the New England lobster roll, a convergence of lobster chunks, mayonnaise and soft hot dog buns which, in capable hands, is one of the world's greatest seafood sandwiches.

The cost of the lunch is £30, including a Tuscan red and cult favourite of New Yorkers –  Antinori Santa Cristina 2008  – chosen by youngandfoodish to match the burger (if not the lobster roll).

Space and time is limited. Booking closes Wednesday 21 April at 7pm.
